
The Kenge Diocese, existing since 1967, is one of the 47 diocese present in the Democratic Republic of Congo. It spread out in the south-west of the Republic for 34.385 km2 and includes the Bandundu town, the chief town, and part of the Bagata, Kenge, Mushie and Mani areas.

The Kenge Diocese is composed, like the whole Republic, of a mosaic of ethnic groups that share the same area. Yansi, Sakata, Boma, Mibala, Hungana, Tsamba, Pelende, Yaka e Suku population meet from the north to the south. The Diocese Is totally composed of 748.425 inhabitants, which corresponds to 13% of the whole Bandundu district. The population density is 28 inhabitants per km2 with 89% of rural population.
Due to the war and to the losses that follow, these people have no income and live in a poverty and decay condition hardly to describe. The family nucleus are composed on average of eight people and their economy is based on a subsistence agriculture.
